Luke describes the episode of the Pilgrims of Emmaus.
Two apostles going from Jerusalem to a village of Emmaus met the resurrected Christ who asked about the subject of their conversation. They told him of the death of Jesus of Nazareth, who was a prophet, and about their sadness, grief, and puzzlement after his tomb was found empty.

Christ accepted their invitation to a meal. "He took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave it to them, and their eyes were opened and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight." (Luke 24:30-31)
